Preparing for Winter: Colds and Flu

Colds and Flu:   Natural medicine and an Oral Homeopathic Flu Vaccine (2023) can prevent colds and flu

Colds and flu are both caused by different viruses.  Flu is caused by the influenza virus and colds are caused by the rhino virus. Colds can re-occur it self because there are about 200 different rhinoviruses.  Flu is another story.

Preparing for Winter: Colds and Flu

Colds and flu are both caused by different viruses.  Flu is caused by the influenza virus and colds are caused by the rhino virus. Colds can re-occur it self because there are about 200 different rhinoviruses.  Flu is another story – there are 3 different types of influenza viruses: A, B and C.  Influenza C is the important one because it will change it mutations continuously.  Every 15-30 years the new virus is at its worst and spread all over the world like a veldt fire.

Know what you have

Colds will not cause fever except in children.  When you develop a secondary infection like bronchitis, sinusitis or lung infection – you might develop a fever.   Flu is much worse and you immediately have a high fever of 39°C and higher.  The following symptoms are also common to flu:  body aches, sneezing, dry cough, headaches, sore throat, cold fever and tiredness. Symptoms last up to 3 days followed by weeks of tiredness.

Contagiousness The cold and flu virus will enter the body via the epithelial tissues of the nose and mouth.  In the body the virus will take 2-3 days to multiply enough to make you sick.  The irritation of the virus in your airways causes you to cough and sneeze and thus you spread the virus all over the show.

Basic protection and care

  • Reduce stress and rest – a day in bed can do wonders and remember stress will suppress your immune system.
  • Avoid salt and exclude all dairy, eggs, and excessive meat or soya consumption because these foods stimulate mucus production – mucus is paradise for bacteria and viruses.
  • Eat lots of fresh organically grown vegetables and fruit.
  • Eat protein because you need it to build immune cells.
  • Avoid sugar and alcohol when sick – witch suppresses the immune system.
  • Drink lots of water – it will help the body to get rid of waste.
  • During winter avoid enclosed areas where there are a lot of people.
  • Do not overheat your working area – dry heat will dry out your epithelial tissues and make you more vulnerable to infection.
  • Sanitize your telephones and other apparatus with alcohol.
  • Wash hands frequently.  Soap will not kill viruses.  Do not use blow dryers in toilets especially if they are not hot.  Keep hands away from face.
  • If you are going to fly somewhere – advanced protection is necessary.  The air in the cabin is dry and is re-circulated.
  • Use stairs in stead of lifts – too many people in a confided space.
  • Do not exercise while you have any flu symptoms.
  • Blow one nostril at a time – too much pressure will force infected phlegm into ears and sinuses.
  • Exercise: when healthy and not while you are sick

Flu injections – why do we need them?

The purpose of flu injections is to prevent life threatening secondary infections.

Who should get a flu jab and / or boost the immune system?

  • People older than 65 – because 90% of flu related deaths are in this age category.
  • People in institutions where the chronically ill are cared for.
  • Children and adolescents who suffer from asthma, frequent ear and lung infections.
  • People suffering from the following diseases: Chronic heart, lung and kidney diseases, diabetes, other metabolic disease, anemia, weak immune systems, HIV/ Aids, leukemia and organ transplants.
  • Health care workers at all levels.

When should I take a flu-jab?

As soon as the new strain is available.  It takes 14 days before the inoculation is effective and protection will last for 6 months.

Can I get flu from the flu injection?

You cannot get flu from the flu injection.  You most probably already have an infection of some sort if you get sick after the flu injection.   If you get a fever or a skin irritation after the injection – it is your immune system which kicks in – which is a good sign.  Remember the flu injection will protect you against specific viruses.

Who should not get the flu injection?

  • People with egg allergy.
  • People who have a fever.
  • First 3 months in pregnancy – your only safe alternative then is homoeopathic medicine like Engystol N tabs or ampoules.

Antibiotics and flu

Remember antibiotics work against viruses and do not help for flu.  Antibiotics work against secondary infection – discuss with your health care professional.

In summary –  how to kill a cold or flu – act immediately and do the following: Flu cocktail 2013

  • Multivitamin – continue taking it – it also supports the immune system.
  • Vitamin C:

Day 1: 1-2 grams every two hours (6-12g on day 1) Day 2: 4-8g in divided doses on day 2. Day 3 onwards: maintenance dose 2-3g in a buffered form as calcium and/or magnesium –ascorbate (prevent acidification of urine) with bioflavonoids. Viruses do not survive in a high Vitamin C concentration.

  • Vitamin D – 95% people are difficient
  • Cat’s claw: 2-6 grams a day.
  • Elderberry extract: 10 drops 6 hourly
  • Zinc: suck lozenges frequently – to protect the throat against viruses.
  • Echinacea: 10 drops 6 hourly.
  • Probiotics like Probiomax-30 billion CFU.

When to see your doctor:

  • Symptoms get worse.
  • No improvement after 5 days.
  • A fever of 37.5°C for 3 days non stop or a fever of 39.5°C and higher.
  • Phlegm:  green, dark yellow or brown – bacterial infection in either lungs or sinuses.
  • Pain in chest and difficulty in breathing – lung infection.
  • Children – no improvement after one week, earache, difficulty in breathing, fever that does not subside after 48h of treatment and sore throat for 3 days.

  Avian flu (H5N1)

For the bird flu virus to infect humans it must first enter a pig.  Chickens, ducks and pigs live together in Asia.  The pigs inhale dried virus infected bird droppings.   When a pig has flu and he inhales bird flu virus then the whole replication starts and you get cross specie infection.  The virus will now spread from pig to pig and human beings.  This is the source of all new human influenza infections.   Bird flu can never affect humans unless it first entered a sick pig lung.   There is one exception and that is when criminal scientist take a bird viral DNA and insert it directly into a human protein coating.   Flu vaccines protect against the most prevalent variants of bird-pig-influenza (5).  There are hundreds of new flu viruses each year.   Viruses multiply if the temperature of the host cell liquid cytoplasm is below 37.8°C and it prefers a temperature of 35.5°C or lower.  For cold blooded birds and reptiles these are perfect temperatures al year long but mostly in winter.  Humans and mammals experience these lower temperatures in winter – and that is why winter time is flu time.   Human fever of > 38.8°C will stop all viral replication and activate the immune system T-cells and macrophages to destroy the invading virus.  Lowering fever will stimulate viral replication.   According to Prof Mark Woolhouse from Edinburgh University there are about 1400 species of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites known to cause human disease.   About 800 of these have originated in animals.  Human beings accumulate 1-2 new pathogens from animals per year.  We could eventually be overwhelmed by pathogens – but we can also be overwhelmed by other world threats.   The way we interact with our environment like deforestation and global travel fuel the spread of pathogens.   About 65% of these pathogens are RNA viruses like HIV, SARS and flu.  They are genetically variable and fast mutating which make them quick to adapt to new hosts.   The majority of people who died of H5N1 have had close contact with contaminated poultry and pigs.  H5N1 infected poultry and birds can be symptom free.   Modisane from Dept of Agriculture says we have a plan to act immediately – I hope so.   The world faces various threats:

  • Political (911, Iraq, Iran nuclear infrastructure, radicalization of the middle east and others)
  • Economic – global energy disruption – western and Asian competition for natural energy resources.
  • Killer pathogens.

Which will happen first – no one knows.

My Advice

A good immune system about never gets sick – so – getting sick is a sign that you should boost your immune system, rest and  slow down – stay in bed and get well and only suppress fever when needed.  Remember  NO  SUGAR CONSUMPTION – it will suppress your immune system.  Dilute fruit juices 1 to 4 – concentrated fruit juices contain a lot of sugar!!!!!!!!
